ROMEO AND JULIET

Monday 23rd - Tuesday 26th August
10-3pm each day

Shakespeare in Suffolk in the Summer 2010

Since 2008, Mathew Townsend Productions has offered a summer holiday course in Suffolk for children and young people (8-14 years), themed on one of Shakespeare's plays. Over four days, the participants get the opportunity to work with professionals across several artforms. While working towards an end of workshop presentation, each day has a different focus - Drama, Art, Music and Movement. Highlights include mask and puppet making with mid-Suffolk based Obelon Arts. With lots of theatre games and exercises, the young participants are given an opportunity to create their own interpretation of the text. At the end of the four days there is a showing of the results.

This year, Shakespeare in Suffolk is based at Wingfield Barns and the theme is Romeo & Juliet.

Once again, those taking part will be able to explore the story of the doomed lovers through different media and at the end of the workshop, on Thursday 26th Augustin the evening, they will present a short performance for family and friends. The workshops are participative, fun and constructive and the aims include: Discovering the plays and poetry of William Shakespeare. Developing skills in a variety of art forms. Learning to communicate clearly and with confidence using voice and body. Working together as part of an ensemble. Using imagination as part of a creative process. MTP is a project-based professional theatre company, established in 1999. The company moved to Suffolk from London last year. As well as major stage productions, MTP presents a range of participative Drama programmes, working with community organisations, museums, schools and national institutions including the National Trust

Tickets: £30 per day or £100 for four days. For all enquires and further information, contact MTP on 01394 385022 , at mtproductions@btconnect.com
