About Us

Wingfield Barns is a Community Interest Company. A community interest company (CIC) is a new type of company introduced by the United Kingdom government in 2005. A business model intended for social enterprises that want to use their profits and assets for the public good, CICs are relatively easy to set up providing there are approved business practices to ensure they are working for the benefit of the community.

Wingfield Barns CIC is a newly formed, social enterprise committed to delivering a cultural, educational and artistic programme to both the immediate and wider community; a programme not otherwise available in such a rural environment that is culturally recognised as deprived.

By using business solutions to achieve public good, it is believed that social enterprises have a distinct and valuable role to play in
helping create a strong, sustainable and socially-inclusive economy.

Wingfield Barns is centred on a Grade II listed timber framed barn built in 1537. The sympathetically restored buildings sit well away from the road in a naturally sloping site with sweeping views to the South across a traditionally farmed landscape. The Barns and the entire site is owned by Mid Suffolk District Council whose own commitment to providing a cultural programme is reflected in the hugely discounted rent required from Wingfield Barns CIC.
