With a reputation for its high standard of fresh contemporary work, artworks seeks to excite and inspire with work in a wide range of media by some of East Anglia’s leading artists. You will have a chance to feast your senses on paintings, prints, sculpture and installation art. This exhibition will run from Saturday 10 to Sunday 25 April. Demonstrations by artworks’ artists at weekends will provide added insights. All the work in the exhibition will be for sale. There will also be a good range of original mounted work, smaller 3D work and cards for sale.
The work, reflecting the differing backgrounds and interests of artworks’ 30 established East Anglian artists, could not be more diverse: curved canvases which are informed by the soft rolling undulations of nature; solid cast glass sculptures with an otherworldliness about them celebrating renewal and abundance; woodcuts that explore the fragile symbiotic relationship between man and the natural environment; arresting 3D ‘drawings’ in wire and wire mesh of people and wild and domestic animals; paintings and original prints depicting domesticity and homely virtues; paintings in mixed oil and chalk pastels capturing the interplay of light on the East Anglian sea and sky; sculptural pieces that endeavour to reflect the randomness, turbulence and chaos of the natural world; unorthodox viewpoints of people in commonplace situations; meticulous collages constructed out of painted watercolour papers; linocuts emphasising structure and design elements in the landscape; batik textiles that capture the play of light and shadow on landscapes. This is but a flavour of what lies in store.
