MARCH 17th at 7.30pm EAST ANGLIAN FILM ARCHIVE -
Something about Diss (John Betjeman)
John Betjeman came to Diss in 1963 when he was filming a series for the BBC
about English market towns. He knew little about the town but it became one
of his favourites, inspiring his poem A Mind's Journey to Diss.
A printout will be available.

Further presentations to come: Dates not fixed yet
Skyliners – 1 & 2 – Films about Airships in general, with lots about Pulham airfield

John Betjeman’s Railway journey across N. Norfolk – delightful film taken on the Hunstanton line in North Norfolk. I can’t remember the date, but it will be late 50s – early 60s.

Cinema Organs in East Anglia – 1 – Early 70s, this programme investigates the surprising number of cinema organs that came to East Anglia at the time – there were two in Diss alone! Part of the On Camera series, this one was the result of a letter sent in by me to the producer, Gordon Moseley.

Spring Offensive – c.1939 Farming and the start of the War. Agricultural Committee – shot largely in St. Lawrence, just up the road from Wingfield.

The Village in the Wheatfield – 1949 Farming in Rickinghall, near Diss. Good for Christmas as there is a good Christmas scene (there’s an Easter on, to!)

A Passion for Churches (John Betjeman – 58 mins) – A bigger production, and the only one in the series in colour. Betjeman visits chur4ches in Norfolk and Suffolk. We’ve out-takes from it, too, which we can show in the first half

The Stansfield Horror – historic programme about murder and mayhem in the Suffolk village of Stansfield – possibly for early November?
