Spilling More Beans

Letters from East Ham Vicarage 1953 – 56

Margot wrote to her daughter Lisa in the USA every week for two and a half years. The 120 letters lay in shoeboxes for decades until Lisa edited them to bring them to the wider public they deserve. The first selection of Spilling the Beans was one of the sell out shows at the 2004 Edinburgh Festival.

Lisa Wright was a drama teacher for 35 years, mostly in inner-city comprehensives, where she wrote and directed huge school shows with elastic casts. She started on her second career in middle age as one of the first woman priests in the Church of England, continuing to direct even larger epics including a 'walkabout Passion Play' through the streets of South London. Now, in her seventies, she has embarked on her third career-author and performer of her own one-woman shows.
